The Lakefield Singers (aka Clippesby Christmas Choir) . . .
. . . and at Carols by Candlelight, 2014.
The Lakefield Singers was formed in the early 1980s and was conducted and trained for twenty years to a very high standard by Evenly Chalkley, giving local concerts and making their mark at some of the competitive music festivals. It very soon took on the role of singing the for the carol services at Clippesby. Some of it founder members are still singing in the choir, sounding as young as ever!
Due to the passing of the years its numbers have dwindled, and the baton has been taken over by Evelyn's daughter, Pauline, meeting as long-established friends to sing together "for old time's sake", and appearing in public just for the popular "Carols by Candlelight" at the church.
Recently it has welcomed a tenor and bass into its ranks, widening its repertoire, and at Christmas it morphs into the Clippesby Christmas Choir, when a few additional voices sometimes join in.
In the early days the accompanist was Mary Cooke from Oby, but for many years now Peter Aldous from Great Yarmouth has fulfilled this important role, devoting many hours of hard work to the choir.
